Marianne Coulson is the January Artist of the Month at Cambria Library

By TINA BAUGH

Marianne Coulson is the featured artist this month and she says the organic nature of acrylic fluid art is addicting.  By using different techniques, textures, and paint consistencies, she creates one of a kind, original, abstract art. She goes on to say, “Each time I pour paint on a surface, it is like opening a new gift.  It’s a calming and meditative practice I try to make time for every day.  Getting lost in the process of choosing the color palette, mixing my own colors, and deciding on the technique, allows me to immerse myself in the art form, let go of control and expectations, and learn to accept what is. Without sounding too philosophical, that this art style has been life changing.”

This art style can also use a lot of resources and create too much waste, so she has created a system of reusing, recycling, and upcycling as many items as possible.  She uses no silicone or other chemicals to create cells.  One of the greatest gifts this art form has given her, she relates, is the ability to create beautiful abstract art that anyone can enjoy and afford.  The interpretation is left to the viewer, which is very cool, and she donates a portion of the profits from all sales to organizations that support animal rescue and wildlife conservation.  As an artist, she hopes viewers will experience the joy of this art as much as she did to create it.
