First Baptist Church Packs for the Kids

For at least the 25th year, the congregation at First Baptist Church (FBC) once again is busy packing Christmas “shoe boxes,” destined for children around the world in countries affected by war, poverty, disease, and natural disaster, as well as for children living on Native American reservations, as part of “Operation Christmas Child.”

The program is managed by Samaritan’s Purse International Relief.  They provide the pre-printed gift boxes, gift suggestions, and labels, and then handle worldwide distribution.  Over the years Operation Christmas Child has grown to encompass hundreds of thousands of volunteers and proven to be an amazingly successful way to touch children around the world.

This program is wholly dependent on volunteer effort and, although FBC has collected the necessary program materials, ultimately it is up to individual volunteer/donors to fill the boxes with age-appropriate toys, clothing, crafts, hygiene items, school supplies, and a personal note, then pack them up and bring them back to FBC.  For the FBC congregation, this is a labor of love, and volunteers have assembled as many as 200 gift boxes in some years.

FBC located at the corner of Highway 1 and Ardath Drive.  Our 10:30 a.m. Sunday service is continuing to meet indoors (masked, as the County requires).  If you are not comfortable inside (or just do not like to sing through a mask), we also have our patio area set up with canopies, and live audio and video feeds from the sanctuary.  We also will continue stream our weekly services on FaceBook Live and on our website.
