Inspired by a Master

By MELISSA LEHMAN

Following the success of the “Bird’s Eye View” exhibit, featuring local artist Tigg Morales, the Cambria Center for the Arts (cambriaarts.org) will host a juried show entitled, “Inspired by a Master.”  In this exhibit, which will run from Friday, May 3 until Sunday, June 30, all the artwork showcased will be inspired by renowned artists, including such iconic masters as Vincent van Gogh, Frieda Kahlo, Eduard Manet, Leonardo da Vinci, and others of similar caliber.  The exhibit celebrates the legacy of those master artists while showcasing the unique interpretations and creativity of contemporary local artists.

Visitors can expect to see a diverse range of work across various media, each paying homage to the influence of a specific master artist.  The exhibit will present a fascinating exploration of how art continues to inspire and influence across generations and will offer a rich tapestry of artistic expression for all to enjoy.

Call to Artists: Artists are invited to submit their paintings or three-dimensional art for inclusion. Photographic images of submitted art can be uploaded to the CCA website at: cambriaarts.org/art-submittal-form, from Tuesday, April 23, until Tuesday, April 30.  Submissions should be brought in person to the CCA gallery on Exchange Day, which is Tuesday, April 30, from 10 a.m. until noon.  For details regarding submission requirements, please see the CCA website: cambriaarts.org.

Juror:  The exhibit juror will be Kathy Miller, an award-winning watercolor artist and a Signature Member of the Central Coast Watercolor Society.  She has shown her work in group and solo exhibitions throughout the state and is well known for her impressionistic, yet representational watercolors of nature and local environs. Kathy enjoys traveling in pursuit of new vistas to capture through her art that is characterized by fresh, brilliant color and gesture. Primarily self-taught, she began her career as a young adult supported by workshops with well-known artists who have helped to inspire and refine her artistry.  Over the years, as her skill and creativity have grown, she experiments with using the watercolor medium to express her views of all that surrounds her.  Her lifelong quest has been to find beauty in everyday surroundings and to share her inspirations through art.

Artist Reception: “Inspired by a Master” will run from Friday, May 3 through Sunday, June 30.  There will be a special artists’ reception on Saturday, May 4, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the evening.  Live music and small bites will be offered at the reception.  This promises to be an exciting new exhibit.  Tell friends, neighbors, and guests to mark their calendars for the opening reception date of Saturday, May 4, and plan to visit the exhibit as often as possible during the months of May and June.  The gallery hours are Friday through Sunday from noon until 4 p.m.

The CCA Gallery is located at 1350 Main Street.
