Where else can you play the great game of Tennis, while watching grazing cattle on the green hillsides, hawks gliding above, an occasional Peregrine falcon, and other critters scurrying by? Sometimes you just have to stop play and take in the beauty of the setting. In Cambria, this bucolic setting is found at the six excellent tennis courts at Coast Union High School, conveniently located just off Main Street on Santa Rosa Creek Road. Fortunately, under the auspices of the Cambria Tennis Club, these courts serve not only the high school, but also the entire community.
The CTC, which is a USTA Community Tennis Association, was established in 1992 for the purpose of supporting and promoting tennis among CTC members, high school students, local residents, and visitors. The availability of quality court facilities for all interested tennis players is due in large measure to the efforts of CTC, which maintains the courts as part of its charter. One of CTC’s responsibilities, pursuant to an agreement with the School District, is court maintenance and repair, which CTC dutifully has fulfilled now for more than 35 years.
If you want to get back into the game, CTC is here to help you. Players are welcome to join us on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. for drop-in doubles. Alternatively, get in touch with us and we will fill you in on the resources available for players of any level. If you want, a member will try to match you to a Club member for a game. If you are a beginner who wants to learn tennis, contact the Club and we will try to set up an arrangement for you to learn. For further information about the local tennis community, including a membership application, check out the CTC website at: cambriatennisclub.com, or call the CTC at: 310-717-5187.
