The Lampton Cliffs Restoration Project Has the Green Light

By SUZANNE FIEDLER

Volunteers get ready!  The first two ice plant pulling events are scheduled on two consecutive Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. on October 22 and October 29.

The Lampton Cliffs Restoration Project needs folks to do the hard work of pulling up ice plant and transporting the debris to a drying area. Volunteers are asked to wear long sleeved shirts, long pants, sturdy, close-toed shoes, a hat, and durable gardening gloves.  Knee pads might also be useful, and other tools will be provided.  Water, snacks, and sunscreen will be provided. In later sessions, volunteers will be needed to trim shrubbery and clear pathways.

LCRP has waited a long time for this day and it is just the beginning.  By removing the ice plant, the space will be prepared for the restoration of native plants and the eventual return of a better-balanced ecosystem to a favorite little neighborhood park.  This space was adopted to give it some much needed TLC.

Come a few minutes early to sign in and get oriented to the work location.  A release must be signed prior to the event and will be sent by email when registering for the event at: lamptonrestore@gmail.com.  Please specify the date or dates being signed up for.

LCRP organizers hope to meet new volunteers in October and future events as well.  They wish to thank the community for all it has done to support the project thus far and for continued help going forward.
