The 2025 Scarecrow Festival Season Is About to Begin

By SHELLEY HOLDEN

The Cambria Scarecrow Festival’s mission is to advance the arts through its imaginative workshops that function as a community arts program. It offers participants the necessary materials, guidance, and space to express creativity, learn about various sculpture techniques, and socialize with other volunteers.

It all begins with Dr. Crow; a fun-loving, non-competitive team of volunteers that refreshes, repairs, and repurposes existing scarecrows and creates new ones for this year’s festival. Everyone is welcome.  No time commitment or experience necessary.

     Upcoming events:

–April 24 is the Dr. Crow Kickoff and luncheon, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Tin City, Building 2515, Unit K, Village Lane Road.  Get an overview of the organization and see the inner workings of CSF from the vast array of supplies and materials to the extensive wardrobe and costumes. Reservations requested at:

DrCrow@cambriascarecrows.com.

–On April 28, the Dr. Crow Workshop Opens – Let the Fun Begin.  Scarecrow enthusiasts are welcome Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Tin City, Building 2515, Unit K, Village Lane Road.  Come whenever it is convenient and come often.  There is no need to schedule an appointment – just drop in and join the fun.  A Dr. Crow Resource Member will be onsite to guide inquiring visitors through the process and answer any questions as the work commences.

–May 1 is the Safety-First Workshop from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., in Tin City, Building 2515, Unit K, Village Lane Road.  Learn to safely use hand and power tools (saws, drills, staplers, etc.). Everyone is welcome.  Reserve a place at: DrCrow@cambriascarecrows.com.

On May 16 and 17, it will be Make-It-In-A-Day Workshops from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Tin City, Building 2515, Unit K, Village Lane Road.  Join the crew in making 16 new scarecrows.  There will be a choice of one of two dates to create a scarecrow.  Individuals may work alone or bring one or two friends and work together.  Let the crew know how many will be in the group.  Space is limited for this event, so sign up early! Reserve a place at: cambriascarecrows.com/workshop.

Those for whom making scarecrows is not an interest might like to help “behind the scenes”.  CSF needs volunteers for initiatives like marketing, fundraising events, community contacts, scarecrow installation/removal, and scarecrow patrol (on-site maintenance during the month of October).
