Summer Hike-In Open House Events at the Piedras Blancas Light Station

By CRESSANT SWARTS

June 5–The Piedras Blancas Light Station is hosting four Hike-In Open House events this summer.  The first two free events are scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, and Wednesday, July 23, both from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Two more events are planned for Wednesday, August 13, and Wednesday, August 27, also from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Visitors can enjoy the scenery on an easy hike to the light station from the parking lots at the north or south ends of the Boucher Trail.  From the parking lot 1 mile north of the light station, the round-trip hike is approximately three miles, including the half-mile loop trail around the light station.  From the south parking lot at the elephant seal viewing point, the round trip is approximately four miles.  Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and wander the grounds or enjoy the ocean view from the picnic area.

Docents and staff will be on hand to answer questions about the light station, and the gift shop will be open.  Entry is free, but the suggested donation of $5 per person helps with the restoration and maintenance of the light station.

Please note that on both the Boucher Trail and at the light station, no smoking, no pets, no bicycles, and no drones are allowed.  Please stay on the trail.
