More than 100 friends of Vicki Verlangieri gathered last week to celebrate her retirement as secretary for Santa Rosa Catholic Parish. Pastor Miguel Grajeda commended her 32 years of service and humorously added that she “trained” eight pastors during her tenure.
Event Chairman Jennifer Smith introduced her family, who spoke about her commitment to the parish and how much they enjoyed participating with her as well, as they grew up here. Son Peter specifically mentioned folding Sunday bulletins every Friday. Daughters Sarah and Theresa were also present.
Husband Michael Verlangieri has also contributed to the community, as a tour guide at Hearst Castle before retiring and as a musician and photographer. The evening was catered by Las Cambritas, one of the three restaurants Vicki’s children own, including Manta Rey and Black Cat. They attributed their success to Mom’s instilling the work ethic in them. Parishioners were happy to report the many ways that “perky” Vicki facilitated arrangements for their needs. She will be missed in the office but will remain active at Santa Rosa Church and in Cambria.
