May 15–May has brought great jubilation to Santa Rosa Parish. On Saturday morning, May 3, twenty youngsters received their First Holy Communion, and we welcomed them to the table of The Lord. That same evening the parish Men’s Club served up a Taco Bar in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Proceeds from the event benefit the many scholarships to be awarded to graduates of Coast Union High School, many of whom are currently completing preparations for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
The bells which tolled in Rome after the death of Pope Francis were soon joyfully pealing following the election of the first Pope from the United States, Pope Leo XIV. Students and public alike were impressed by the experienced but humble man who easily communicated in Spanish, one of the many languages in which he is fluent. He gained this language during the ten years he served in Peru to which he became a joint citizen with the United States. Noteworthy is that the patron saint of Peru is Saint Rose of Lima, who is also the patron of Santa Rosa Parish. Jubilation indeed!
