Remembering Jeremy Main

By STAFF

Jeremy Daniel Main passed away on Thursday, April 10, at his home here in Cambria. Jeremy moved to Cambria in 2014. He grew up in Fremont, California and graduated from Mission San Jose High School in 1992 where he completed his Boy Scout Eagle Rank and lettered in swimming.  He enjoyed skiing and surfing and traveling with his family.  He attended Cal State Eastbay where he completed a BA in Psychology.  He became interested in IT work when living in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

Jeremy was best known for his non-profit Technology Collective and its mission to promote sustainable technology.  Jeremy was active in ongoing efforts to manage e-waste and refurbish and repair what could be salvaged from various electronic devices.  He was deeply interested in electronic collection and storage, education, sustainable agriculture, electric mobility and transportation, and the use of IT systems for philanthropic public projects, some of which were successfully implemented in town.

Here are a few quotes from those who know him well:

“Jeremy did a lot of good within our community, as many know.  He had a stroke several months ago and has been having various health problems. …at his core he had a kind heart and helped many people in his time here.  At his best, Jeremy was a good example.  His… good in this town will continue to live on in those he touched and helped.”

“…Jeremy… was an unusual man, full of quirks and demons. But over time, I grew to appreciate his efforts to contribute to the community, be it local seniors, small businesses, and others struggling with homelessness or illness.  He was actually quite brilliant in his way. He was… a complicated soul whose struggles were worn on his ragged sleeve.  In the end, I hope to see the whole of his life recognized, his contributions acknowledged in some small way, and his struggles seen as lessons in life’s mysterious ways.

For Jeremy’s family and friends, we in Cambria collectively offer our condolences.
