Popular Artist Brings Drawing Classes to Cambria Center for the Arts

By SUSAN MCDONALD

Local artists will soon have several opportunities to learn and create with Lynda Monick-Isenberg, acclaimed visual artist and professor emeritus from Minneapolis College of Art and Design.  Her philosophy: A world of creativity and wonder can come from the tip of a pencil.

It is the second year she has brought community-based teaching focused on drawing and creative practice to the Cambria Center for the Arts.  Last year, her workshops were sold out, with one, Mindful Marks, so popular that students continued meeting together monthly throughout 2024, influenced by Lynda to develop their drawing skills.

Workshops are held at the Cambria Center for the Arts (1350 Main Street).  No drawing experience is necessary.  Signups and information, including a materials list, are online at cambriaarts.org.

Lynda’s classes begin Saturday, February 15, with Drawing: Exploring with Line, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants will “play, observe, invent, and imagine with the simplest and most ordinary of drawing tools – the pencil and sketchbook.”

That afternoon, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Lynda will guide participants toward Building an Artful Practice, offering ways to embark upon or reignite art making.

Cost for each three-hour Saturday class is $60 for Cambria Center for the Arts members and $75 for non-members.  Participants may sign up for one or both classes.

Linda will once again lead Mindful Marks: Observational and Expressive Drawing classes from 10 a.m. to noon, for four Wednesdays: February 19, February 26, March 5, and March 12. Participants will follow traditional and nontraditional exercises to develop personal drawing skills, techniques, and strategies for an ongoing creative practice.  Cost for the four Mindful Marks sessions is $125 for members and $145 for non-members.

Cambria Center for the Arts is a nonprofit community-supported organization offering classes, exhibits, and performances year-round for adults and children. It is located at 1350 Main Street and the website is: cambriaarts.org
