May 1–In a novel approach to their Annual District 23 meeting of Native Daughters of the Golden West, members met for a luncheon they prepared themselves. Representatives from San Luisita Parlor No. 108, San Miguel Parlor No. 94, and El Pinal Parlor No. 163, Cambria, met on Saturday, April 26, at the Estrella Warbirds lounge. State President Darleen Carpenter was present to review the yearly financial records and minutes.
El Pinal was represented by Linda Finley, Francie Levy, Millie Benson, Romaine Swanson, Tala Romero, Lindy Pedotti, and Consuelo Macedo. The latter three entered a contest of 12 participants who prepared a gallon of their favorite soups for all the ladies to taste small samples. After the vote, everyone returned to choose a full bowl of their favorite. The Cambrians received honorable mentions.
