Mark Dektor’s Photo Exhibit, Hometown, Opens at the CCA Gallery

By CONSUELO MACEDO

There was standing room only at the Cambria Center for the Arts as they welcomed noted photographer Mark Dektor during an artist’s reception at the opening of his exhibit, Hometown.  A brief presentation in the auditorium licked off the event on February 22.

Cambria Historical Society provided support for his year long project, which was initially conceived to photograph historical families, ranchers, and farmers.  The scope rapidly grew to include a broad cross section of local Cambrians, whose black and white portraits illustrated his “Hometown” theme.  Most of the 280 folks photographed paid a standard fee, which included two digital photos, and CHS encouraged others to become sponsors to help defray costs.  Dektor says that once the project caught on, he decided to continue with it, and may provide another display of the popular concept in the future.

CHS, who co-sponsors the exhibit, provided gourmet hors d’oeuvres and canapés for the artist’s reception, while folks enthusiastically viewed friends and family and spotted photos of themselves.

The two-month exhibit at CCAT (1350 Main Street) may be viewed until April 27.  The CCA Gallery is open Tuesdays through Sunday, from 12 to 4 p.m.  Dektor may be contacted at his studio in Tin City.  Call (818) 397-4796 for an appointment.
