Looking Forward to Easter at First Baptist Church

By MARK BERRY

It is the season of Lent, a 40-day period of devotion and preparation for Easter – the most important day of the year for Christians.  The number 40 reflects the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness prior to his public ministry (New Testament Gospel of Mark 1:12-13).  Three significant services are planned at FBC in this season of focused reflection on Christ’s passion – his love for humanity that led him to endure crucifixion on the cross to purchase our salvation.

–Palm Sunday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m., will begin passion week by setting the context for Easter.

–Good Friday, April 3, at noon, will be observed at FBC in a joint service of several local churches.  This will be a simple contemplative service with readings from the Gospels interspersed with music.

–Easter Sunday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m., will be a celebratory service with special music led by the FBC Worship Team.  Everyone is welcome.

In the meantime, FBC is planning another fun afternoon meet-up – this time on Sunday, March 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. – to build sandcastles on the beach in Cayucos.  Bring shovels, pails and other sandcastle building materials to enjoy some afternoon frivolity.  FBC will provide “hors d’oeuvres” and cold soft drinks.  Everyone is welcome.  The meeting place is the parking lot of the 24th Street Beach in Cayucos.

FBC also has several on-going weekly events, including small groups for men, women, high school girls, and a small group open to anyone that meets every Sunday at 9 a.m., before the regular 10:30 a.m. service.  Small groups are a great way to make connections, share faith, or learn more about it in a welcoming environment.

FBC’s Sunday morning services are held at 10:30 a.m., with refreshments available at 10 a.m. Kid’s Church is available.  FBC also continues to stream weekly services on YouTube and on the church’s website.  If you are interested in attending any of these events, or just want more information, please contact the church office at: 805-927-4789 or: office@fbccambria.org.

Visitors are always welcome at FBC, located at the corner of Highway 1 and Ardath Drive.  For additional information about FBC, please visit the FBC website at: www.fbccambria.org.
