Sophia Barwegen, Coordinator for the Coastal Discovery Center for Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary in San Simeon,will be giving a talk, ‘Dive into Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary’ on Sunday, February 2, at 4 p.m. The event will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Community of Cambria, 786 Arlington Street. A donation of $10 per person is suggested for this event.
Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary contains biodiverse ecosystems like kelp forests and deep-sea canyons and stretches from Cambria to San Francisco. Listen to whales, see a rare octopus garden and discover why our lush kelp forests are so important. The sanctuary provides habitat for at least 36 species of marine mammals, 94 species of seabirds, 525 species of fish, four species of sea turtles, 31 phyla of marine invertebrates, and 450 species of marine algae. Historical sites include 1,276 reported shipwrecks and 718 prehistoric sites.
