Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve ends 2024 with Forest Planting and Looks Forward to 2025

By KITTY CONNOLLY

On Sunday, December 15, a cheerful and hard-working crew of around 30 volunteers planted nearly 500 trees and shrubs on Fiscalini Ranch Preserve.  High winds and rain caused Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve to postpone the project by a day, which turned out to be a great idea, since Sunday was sunny and mild. This was a great end to a productive year.

Songs for the Season, held December 7, was equally successful.  This sold-out event featured a ceramics demonstration and sale by Patricia Griffin, music by Bone Appétit, savory treats from Robin’s, and delicious desserts from a cadre of local bakers.  A highlight was a raffle of services and experiences donated by local businesses and supporters.  Thank you to all the volunteers who made this event such a joyful start to the holiday season!

Next up is the Cambria Center for the Arts show: “ON THE TRAIL: Ceramics by Patricia Griffin Created During Her Residency with the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve”.  Patty spent a year attending FFRP docent walks and conducting self-study of plant and animal life on the Ranch.  The works in the show were inspired by her time on the trails.  “This collection is my tribute to the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve.  It has been so inspiring to connect with the preserve in a deeper way and bring that into the studio this year”, said Griffin.  “I also want to show my gratitude to all volunteers, docents, and donors who make it such a special place.”

The exhibition opens Friday, January 3, and runs through Sunday, February 2, with an opening reception on Friday, January 3, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.  The artist is generously donating her proceeds during the opening weekend of Friday, January 3, through Sunday, January 5, to FFRP.
