First Baptist Church Has a Busy Lenten Season

By MARK BERRY

It is the season of Lent at First Baptist Church.  Lent is a 40-day period of devotion and preparation for Easter, which began on Ash Wednesday and will end on the Thursday before Good Friday (this year, April 17).  The number 40 reflects the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness prior to his public ministry.

It is also a busy season here at FBC, with weekly and monthly events for men and women still to come this month and through the first week of April.  On Tuesday, April 1, at 9 a.m., FBC men meet for “Fill your Mug”, at Sandy’s Deli to encourage each other in their faith over a cup of coffee.  Then on the first Monday of the month, April 7, FBC women gather at Lily’s for “Fill Your Cup”, coffee and great conversation.

On Fridays, at 8:30 a.m., the FBC women continue with an event called “Body & Soul”, for a time of devotional encouragement, authenticity, exchanging recipes and ideas, and accountability to personal health goals.  On March 27, the last Thursday of the month, FBC women gather for fellowship at “Busy Bees Sewing,” as they cut, sew, sort, and package items for the new mothers and babies served by Memorial Christian Hospital in Bangladesh.  They meet from 9 a.m. to Noon.

FBC also has several ongoing small groups, including Tuesday mornings and evenings for women; Tuesday evenings and Wednesday afternoons for men; and a Thursday afternoon mentoring group for high school girls.  In addition, there is a mixed adult small group which meets every Sunday at 9 a.m., before the regular 10:30 service.  This group recently started an in-depth study of the Book of Acts, which will continue until Labor Day.

For those who are interested in attending any of these events, or who want more information, please contact the church office at: (805) 927-4789 or at: office@fbccambria.org.  Visitors are always welcome at FBC, located at the corner of Highway 1 and Ardath Drive.

Sunday morning services are held at 10:30 a.m., with refreshments available at 10 a.m.  Kid’s Church is available. FBC continues to stream weekly services on YouTube and on the church website.  For additional information about FBC, please visit the FBC website at: fbccambria.org.
