While everyone appreciates the much-needed rain, there still will be days when the sun is out, and the weather is clear. On those lovely days, the six tennis courts at Coast Union High School are freshly washed by the rains and beckoning to tennis players to get out and enjoy the wonderful game of tennis.
For those who are playing right after the rain, the Cambria Tennis Club provides squeegees to help dry the courts, but remember to be careful – some areas, especially the lines and along the fences, can remain slick.
Tennis is called “the healthiest sport” because it can be enjoyed by people of all ages, and it enhances physical, mental and social health. The CTC was established in 1992 for the overall purpose of supporting and promoting tennis among club members, students at local schools, lresidents, and visitors. One of CTC’s responsibilities, pursuant to an agreement with the School District, is court maintenance and repair (such as providing the squeegees), which the CTC dutifully has fulfilled now for more than 30 years.
During the month of February, high school students will be out on the courts enjoying the game. The physical education class is using the courts on Friday mornings during the next two weeks, and again on Tuesday and Thursday mornings in the last week of February. The times the courts are being used are posted on the courts.
For all tennis players (regardless of age or level) who want to get back into the game, consider joining club members on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. for drop-in doubles. Everyone gets to play. Alternatively, get in touch and a member will find a suitable match with a member of the Club for a game. For further information, including a membership application, check out the CTC website at: cambriatennisclub.com, or call: (310) 717-5187.
