Clear communication plays a vital role in protecting one of Cambria’s most treasured open spaces. At the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve, an ongoing partnership between the Cambria Community Services District and Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve relies not only on legal safeguards and land stewardship, but also on consistent information-sharing with the public. That exchange helps ensure the Ranch remains preserved, well maintained, and responsive to community needs.
The Fiscalini Ranch Preserve is owned and managed by CCSD and protected by a conservation easement granted to FFRP. The easement restricts activities, such as water extraction, commercial use, and alterations to natural habitats, helping maintain the Ranch’s environmental integrity.
Beyond monitoring compliance with the easement, FFRP serves as a support organization. Friends groups assist with maintenance and stewardship, raise funds for improvements, promote responsible public use, and serve as a liaison between residents and land managers. In partnership with CCSD, these efforts help sustain and enhance the preserve.
Community participation is equally important. Residents regularly report maintenance concerns, rule violations, and safety issues, demonstrating Cambria’s strong sense of shared responsibility. Reports may be submitted through CCSD’s website or by contacting FFRP at 805-927-2856 or ranch (at) fiscaliniranch.org.
For the past six years, FFRP has shared news about events, volunteer opportunities, projects, guidelines, and seasonal changes through the cambriaca. Approximately 150 articles have been published and are archived at fiscaliniranch.org/connect/news. The publication has played a significant role in strengthening communication throughout the community.
Updates will continue through FFRP’s website, Facebook page, and NextDoor. A quarterly e-newsletter provides additional updates, with sign-up located under “Stay in Touch” at the bottom of each FFRP webpage. Staying in touch is one simple way to help care for this special place.
