Cambria Center for the Arts will present “On the Trail: The Ceramic Art of Patricia Griffin” from January 3 through February 2. Inspired by the artist’s year-long residency on the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve, the solo show will open with a reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Friday, January 3. All the artist’s proceeds from the reception and opening weekend will benefit Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve.
The show celebrates the beauty of the preserve, one of the last unspoiled public open spaces on the California coast. It includes a new collection from the artist, focused on form and texture discovered on the trails of the preserve. Griffin also will present a new series of etched pieces in her “woodcut” style, using traditional sgraffito etching techniques in contemporary designs.
“This collection is my tribute to the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve. It has been so inspiring to connect with the preserve in a deeper way and bring that into the studio this year,” said Griffin. “I also want to show my gratitude to all of the volunteers, docents, and donors who make it such a special place.”
Griffin, a full-time artist since 2007, had a studio gallery on Cambria’s Main Street for many years. She now works from her home studio and keeps in contact with collectors from throughout the United States through her online Studio Friends group.
Griffin’s work is shown locally at The Vault Gallery in Cambria. Her art has been showcased in leading ceramic art publications and national exhibitions, including Clay & Glass National, Living with Clay: California Ceramics Collections, Ink & Clay, and Teabowl National. In 2023, she completed two permanent installations at healthcare facilities in southern California. This will be Griffin’s first solo show since her 2017 exhibition at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art.
