Call to Artists… and Writers! “Every Picture Tells a Story”

By MELISSA LEHMAN

The Cambria Center for the Arts visual arts committee is thrilled to announce a special upcoming exhibit, entitled, “Every Picture Tells a Story.”  This exciting exhibit is scheduled for April 29 through June 29, with an opening reception for participating artists, writers, and community members on Saturday, May 3, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.  Live music and home-made treats will be provided and wine offered for purchase.

For this unique art and literary event, the work of local visual artists will be displayed with accompanying brief, written interpretations provided by our talented community of writers. Participants will include the Joslyn Center group, “Rough Writers,” as well as a variety of local poets, novelists, and journalists.  Amateur and professional writers alike are encouraged to partake in this event.

Those interested in submitting written pieces inspired by the visual art selected are advised that participation is limited to approximately 20 writers, with written works ranging in length from simple three-line haikus to single page expositions.  Written submissions will be posted alongside the associated works of art beginning May 3.  If interested in participating, kindly contact Cindy Stiles at: cindystiles9@gmail.com by March 31.

Participating writers are invited to visit the Gallery to view the paintings submitted, so they can choose their preferred subject, between April 29 and May 1, from noon to 4 p.m.  Selection will be on a first come – first serve basis.  Writing must be completed quickly and submitted via email by May 2 in order to be finalized and displayed at the opening reception.

Artists who would like to participate in this show are asked to review the exhibit requirements on the CCA website, cambriaarts.org/gallery-conspectus.  Because the Gallery is small and wall space limited, pieces that cannot be accommodated in person will be posted to the Virtual Gallery for all to enjoy.  Art may be submitted for consideration online beginning Monday, April 21, through Tuesday, April 29, and delivered to the Gallery on Exchange Day, Monday, April 29, from 10 a.m. until noon.

The CCA gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays.  It is located at 1350 Main Street.  To become a member of the Cambria Center for the Arts community, please visit: cambriaarts.org/membership.  For specific questions, you may contact the Gallery Director, Margo Ternstrom, at: margo.ternstrom@cambriaarts.org.
