What do you call a gathering of poets? Answer: A mutual admiration society. Not long ago several entrants in the folio sized Cambria Cadence got together for an afternoon tea, hosted by publisher Donna Crocker and Mary Combs and catered by Jennifer Smith. It was nostalgic to remember co-creators Ann Glaser and Dr. Julian Crocker, who did not live to see the booklet hit the newsstands.
During the event it was a delight to hear each poets recite their own work, each in his or her own voice. Eighteen “Seaside Villagers”, as described by Donna, contributed to her book. Each presented a different style of poetry included in the collection. A special feature is Haiku by our recently departed Art Van Rhyn, and the booklet illustrates several of his woodcuts.
The project was financed by Donna Crocker as a service to the former University Women of Cambria; proceeds benefit this year’s awards by the Cambria Community Scholarship Foundation. Cambria Cadence is available on newsstands, at the Cookie Crock and at the Chamber of Commerce.
