A Lot is Happening This Month for Cambria Rotary Club

By SUE ROBINSON

September is Basic Education and Literacy Month for Rotary Clubs around the world.  Rotary members were pleased to start this month with a donation of $500 to the Cambria Grammar School Parent and Teacher Association, whose mission it is to bring out the best in each child by encouraging families and the community to contribute to a meaningful and rewarding life experience.

The Cambria Rotary Club joined in on the Pinedorado Parade with attending President Bob Kasper; Rotarian of the Year, Otis Archie; and Founding Member, Tom Tierney waving to the crowd while Peace Committee members Janet Meyers and Linda McDonald walked along holding peace pickets painted by local students.

The following Saturday, a group of hearty Rotarians hit the road, literally, to clean up trash along the Club’s section of Highway 1, which extends from Burton Drive to Weymouth Street.  The group filled eight bags of trash.  This is just one of the ways Rotarians contribute to the community and the environment.

The Club is in full planning mode for the October 14 Walk/Run for Polio that begins at 9 a.m. at Shamel Park.  Members are hoping that many locals will “walk with us for those who can’t”.  The event is a 5K Walk or Run, which is the equivalent of three miles, and participants will be traversing Fiscalini Ranch. Consider inviting friends and family from out of town to enjoy the outstanding view from the Ranch and check out the many activities happening on that day.  In addition to viewing the hundreds of scarecrows lining the streets and posed in front of businesses, the Cambria Neighbors Club is hosting the annual Arts & Craft Fair that day at Cambria Pines Lodge.  And the Cambria Historical Society’s Harvest Festival is happening that day, too, at the Museum grounds (5521 Center Street).

The Cambria Rotary Club is asking everyone to help raise vital funds that will eradicate polio and prepare for a polio-free world.  Registration is $25 per participant, who may run or walk.  To donate or to volunteer please go to: cambriarotaryfundraiser.org.  Printed registration forms are available at the Cambria Chamber of Commerce (767 Main Street).
