Once upon a time, Richard and Gwenn Stokes sponsored a sing-along gathering at the Pewter Plough Playhouse on a recurring timeline over five years. Everyone enjoyed the gathering and had so much fun that it eventually became a more formal group. That was in 1990, and the Cambria Community Chorale was born.
Bringing a new voice to the community, Larry Larsen, a University of Southern California music major graduate, became the Chorale’s first music director. As the Chorale approaches the end of another year and another new year beginning, the Chorale will observe its thirty-fifth-year anniversary and hope to make it something truly special.
On a different topic, which is still Chorale-related, and on behalf of the Chorale on a personal note, I would like to thank all those who attended one of the December concerts. Thank you for supporting us. The second concert last Sunday resembled the attendance of the Chorale past events before the COVID-19 epidemic. We saw wildly few open spaces as we looked into the audience. We noticed it and were overwhelmed with excitement and honored, as well, that so many of you took time out of your holiday to join us.
As mentioned, the beginning of the Chorale’s thirty-fifth year is approaching. For anyone interested, consider this an invitation to join the Chorale. The Cambria Community Chorale’s launch of the spring session will take place at the Joslyn Center on Tuesday, January 7, at 9 a.m. For the upcoming songbook, and Director Ron Perry has chosen interesting selections for the spring events. Practice is every Tuesday morning as a group from 9 to 11 a.m. Forty five-minute sectional practices take place on Friday afternoons.
