Call to Artists: “It’s the Journey”

By MELISSA LEHMAN

The Visual Arts committee of the Cambria Center for the Arts  invites artists to submit two- and three-dimensional art for an upcoming exhibit entitled, “It’s the Journey.”  The show, scheduled from January 7 through February 23, will feature artist George Scribner, and will include an artists’ reception on Saturday, January 11, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

The path to artistic excellence can be challenging – especially at the beginning.  It is full of missteps, obstacles, and only occasional successes.  But with time, practice, diligent effort and a focus on the process rather than on each product created, artistic creation becomes easier and the resulting art more satisfying. This show is inspired by the journey of the artist on the road to excellence, with a focus on the pauses along the way, during which the artist attempts to visually capture the observed moment in time.  Local artists are encouraged to follow this theme in any way they can imagine.

Submission guidelines can be found on the CCA website, at: cambriaarts.org/art-submittal-form. In short, artists are invited to submit up to four pieces each, gallery space permitting. All work that meets specified guidelines will be accepted. However, because the gallery is small and wall space limited, pieces that cannot be accommodated in person will be posted to the virtual gallery for all to enjoy.  Art may be submitted for consideration online from December 30 through January 6, and delivered to the Gallery on Exchange Day, which is Monday, January 6, from 10 a.m. until noon.

Remember to calendar this exciting exhibit, submit work reflecting the show’s theme, and bring friends and neighbors to the opening reception on January 11.  For those who can, please bring a special treat or a bottle of wine to share with the artist community and those who support them.

The CCA gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays.  It is located at 1350 Main Street.  To become a member of the Cambria Center for the Arts community, please visit: cambriaarts.org/membership.  For specific questions, you may contact the new Gallery Director, Margo Ternstrom at: margo.ternstrom@cambriaarts.org.
