Pickleball Club Represented at The Huntsmen World Senior Games

By GREGG WHITFIELD

The Huntsman World Senior Games is the largest annual multi-sport event in the world for athletes aged 50 and over.  The event, which includes over 30 different sports, has taken place for two weeks each October in St. George, Utah, for over 30 years.  Recently, Cambria Pickleball Club member Gregg Whitfield competed in pickleball at the event and won a Gold Medal in the 70+ age bracket.

From softball to swimming, from square dance to soccer, The Huntsman World Senior Games offers a world class competition experience.  In addition to athletic events, the Games promote health by providing lifesaving health screenings for cancer-breast and prostate.  Screenings also detect other serious health threats–glaucoma, diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and decreased bone density.

Volunteer medical and nursing students assist with the screenings and generous sponsors provide diagnostic equipment and services.  More than 11,500 athletes compete in over 30 sports events, with most athletes coming from the United States, but athletes from Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Australia, Russia, and Japan also competed this year.  Congratulations to Gregg.
