Native Daughters Annual Home-made Red Chili Cheese Enchilada Sale

By CONSUELO MACEDO

It is that time again … El Pinal Parlor No. 163, Native Daughters of the Golden West are gearing up for their annual sale of home-made Red Chile Cheese Enchiladas and are now taking advance orders from any member.  Five enchiladas packaged ready to heat and eat will be available for pick up on Saturday, November 16, so please let Native Daughters know how many you would like so members can plan accordingly.  In recent years the enchiladas have been prepared by the thousands on the days before the pickup at Santa Rosa Catholic Parish Hall (1174 Main Street).  Contact Co-chairs Tala Romero at (805) 610-4179, or Consuelo Macedo at (805) 748-8651.  Proceeds benefit the group’s community outreach.

Through the years the Native Daughters have had full dinner sales but now are focusing on their most popular item.  This continues a fine tradition of days long past when the ladies had an Enchilada Banquet up at Cambria Pines Lodge.  The fraternal organization was established in Cambria in 1908, when members of the village’s elite families actually met in each other’s homes.  Currently, they meet on the second Tuesday of each month at the Santa Rosa Church Hall at 6:30 p.m., or alternatively, via Zoom.  Membership is open to California born women, and the organization supports several foundations at the state level, including the historic home in San Francisco designed by noted architect Julia Morgan.  Members are entitled to stay at this historic landmark at a discounted rate.
