Honoring Our Heros

By DAVID PIERSON

Every year Project Hero holds a bicycle ride down the coast to support wounded veterans.  The ride is made special because wounded, disabled veterans, and first responders are the ones riding down the coast.  This year they event, beginning on October 13 and running through October 19, will start in Santa Cruz and finish at Port Hueneme, including a stop in San Simeon, as they have for many years.  They will ride by the Veteran’s Hall around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16.

The American Legion Post 432 family hosts the riders for a dinner on the night they arrive at the Veterans Memorial Hall.  The Cambria Youth Collective is making banners to thank the riders, which will be displayed at the Veterans Memorial Hall.  The Cambria Grammer School students will make placemats for the dinner. As they leave San Simeon, they will travel down Main Street on their way to make a truly special stop at the local schools.

The public is invited to join the Legion family in celebrating the riders’ courage as they ride by the Veterans Hall around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16.  Learn more about the event and donate to this great cause at: 2024 California Challenge – Project Hero (weareprojecthero.org).  The Legionaries will wave flags as the riders pass by and will have extra flags for those who attend.
