Welcome to the SkateCambria’s Picnic for the Park

By CONNIE PENDLETON

The public is invited to grab picnic blankets and chairs on Sunday, April 27, for a fun-filled afternoon at the beautiful grounds of Parr Collective at Stolo Vineyards (3776 Santa Rosa Creek Road).  The event, from 1 to 4 p.m., is a fundraiser to help “Cap the Gap”, to bring in funds needed to get the highly anticipated Cambria skatepark out to bid.

After more than five years without a skatepark, one final funding hurdle remains. The skatepark project is essentially shovel-ready, with design and permitting work nearly complete. However, rising construction costs and inflation have created a funding gap that must be closed before the Cambria Community Services District can put the project out for bid.  A Special Meeting of the CCSD Board of Directors will take place on Thursday, April 24, at the Veterans Memorial Hall at 2 p.m., when this funding gap will be discussed and a formal estimate of funds needed will be considered.
At the Picnic in the Park event, guests will enjoy an outstanding Mexican buffet and dessert provided by 12 of the finest local restaurants.  Live music acoustic music will be performed from 1 to 2:30 p.m. by singer/songwriter Jesse Strickland, and from 2:30 to 4 p.m. by Pricey Diggs, who will perform an eclectic selection of music.  A raffle with prizes donated by Cambria merchants is also planned.  Parr Collective, which produces award-winning Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, and Gewurtztraminer wines, will donate 10% of its sales to the skatepark fund.

Community members are especially encouraged to come to the picnic together with family and friends to support this grassroots effort in building a skatepark for local kids.  Tickets are $55 each and may be obtained on the website at: parrcollective.com

For donations apart from the event, tax deductible donations may be made directly to Cambria Community Council, the fiscal agent for SkateCambria by check or with PayPal, debit, or credit card.  The website link is: cambriacommunitycouncil.org/skate-park-initiative.  Checks should have “skatepark” written in the memo section and be mailed to P.O. Box 486, Cambria.
