My perspective from a Physical Education major with an emphasis on recreation is that pickleball is the best lifetime sport. One of pickleball’s biggest draws is its accessibility. I played on courts all over San Luis Obispo County and we are fortunate to have six of the most beautiful courts in the world. I n addition, the cost of pickleball is relatively inexpensive compared to most other sports.
Pickleball is fun and easy to learn. It does not require great athleticism to play, one reason for its great popularity.
I remember back to physical education classes, high school sports, and college sports. When I taught, I was focused on getting students involved in some form of exercise to promote a healthy lifestyle.
From my perspective, the youth of Cambria should be getting involved in pickleball. With a paddle and sports shoes, one can get a great form of exercise and social engagement seven days a week on our courts. Pickleball is a sport that everyone can enjoy throughout their lives—some play into their 70s and 80s. There is not a senior, over-50-year-old development built today that does not have pickleball courts. Plan for the future and get your kids involved in pickleball and one day down the line you and they will be glad you did.
