Reverend Eugenia Gamble will begin the Advent season with a sermon series this Sunday, November 28, at Safe Harbor Presbyterian Church. This Sunday she will preach “Prepare Him Room: Face to Face.” Services begin at 2:00 p.m.
Safe Harbor again joins with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church inviting Cambria and the North Coast communities to offer a prayer and place a ribbon on a Prayer Tree to symbolize prayer during the Advent Season. Anyone experiencing joys, sorrows, a celebration, a loss, or anything personally important is invited to participate. Coordinator Deb Donaldson says, “If you would like prayers shared on your behalf, there will be a secure box in which to place them. These prayers will be offered as part of our worship service until after Christmas.” The Prayer Tree will be in place and waiting on the first day of Advent. The tree was widely used when it was first installed before Easter of this year. Donaldson notes, “the location has changed to the porch in front of the sanctuary. This will provide cover in case of rain and is easily accessible by stairs or a ramp.”
Preparation for the new church year begins with a timely four-week series of readings and discussion when Safe Harbor presents a study geared to this time of anxiety, pandemic, and division. A Surprising God–Advent Devotions for an Uncertain Time is a new meditation and prayer book written by respected theologian/ preachers Thomas G. Long and Donyelle McCray. The book contains brief daily readings and prayers for this volatile moment in history. The devotions are an alert to the Advent theme of hope and a patient waiting for God’s light. A Wednesday Zoom gathering will be held to discuss and the debrief the readings and for sharing personal feelings during this Advent and Christmas season. All who are interested are welcomed.
