Homeless Animal Rescue Team Helping Homeless Cats with Medical Needs

Over the next few months, the Homeless Animal Rescue Team (HART) must raise at least $10,000, the estimated costs of expected animal medical procedures and medications for the period that extends into early months of 2022.  Currently 16 cats in the shelter are dependent on the HART Guardian Angel (GA) fund for medical treatment.

The GA fund was formed in 2012 to secure funds for non-routine, costly medical treatments not covered by the HART General Fund.  Costs paid by the GA program have exceeded $30,000 annually and have saved the lives of many cats and kittens.  One hundred percent of the donations to the GA fund go directly to paying for veterinary medical care for cats and kittens in need.  HART is home to many local cats and kittens who are looking for permanent loving homes.  Many arrive in need of expensive medical care to improve their comfort and quality of life, such as lab work, x-rays/ultrasound, dental care, surgery, and medications.

Two of the recipient kittens are Sterling and Silvia.  They came to HART as stray four-week-old siblings from an inexperienced, feral mom.  When they arrived they were cold, covered with fleas and lice, and had severe eye infections.  Although both cats survived their poor health, their eyesight continues to be compromised.  The GA fund paid for an examination by a veterinary ophthalmologist, who will determine the best approach to saving as much eyesight as possible.  These sweet kittens are looking for an adoptive home, together, in time for the holidays.

Donations to the GA fund will ensure that ongoing treatment is possible for all cats who come into HART’s care.  Donations can be made online (hartcambria.org) by scrolling to the GA fund donation button, or pledged by phone (805-927-7377).  Checks also can be mailed to the HART GA Fund (2638 Main Street, Cambria, CA 93428).  Please visit the HART website to learn more about the work HART does.
