First Baptist Church (FBC) is preparing for a very busy Christmas season.  In December, FBC will be celebrating the four Sundays of Advent.  Advent is the beginning of the liturgical year in Western Christianity.

Advent is observed in most Christian denominations as a time of expectant waiting a nd preparation for both the celebration of the Nativity of Christ at Christmas and the return of Christ at the Second Coming.  Christmas Day is on a Sunday this year, and FBC plans a special worship service for that morning at 10:30 a.m.

Several monthly activities also are planned.  FBC women will host “Curbing the Christmas Craze” involving a Christmas ornament exchange on Saturday, December 3, from 10:00 a.m. to noon.   FBC has resumed its monthly potluck luncheons. The next luncheon will be on December 4 following the Sunday morning service.  On Tuesday, December 6, FBC will host “Dinner for Dudes”, which offers a great meal and an opportunity for friendship at 6:00 p.m.   All men in the community are invited.   A nominal $10 donation is suggested.

Weekly activities will be available at FBC, as well.  The “Fit for a Purpose” classes for women are continuing every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. except on Thanksgiving.  The hour-long class rotates among the topics of nutrition; dance and movement; core, stretch and tone; and light weight training.  The classes are open to all women of all levels of fitness.  Attendees are asked to bring water and a yoga mat.  All classes are free.  Plenty of parking is available.

Weekly activities for youth continue with junior high and high school youth meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays at FBC, and the Youth Collective meeting on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at Community Presbyterian’s Youth Hut.

Visitors are always welcome at FBC, located at the corner of Highway 1 and Ardath Drive. FBC continues to stream weekly services on Facebook and on the church website.  For additional information, including details on meeting locations, please call the church office (805-927-4789) or visit the FBC website (www.fbccambria.org).
