Elected positions are open on all four local district boards this year: the Cambria Community Services District, the San Simeon Community Services District, the Cambria Community Healthcare District, and the Coast Unified School District. The filing period of the declaration of candidacy has opened and will run through Friday, August 12. With the anticipated consolidation of biennial elections for local districts with the 2022 General Election, residents in Cambria and San Simeon who are registered voters now can begin to arrange their campaign timelines leading up to Tuesday, November 8.
The first step in any declaration of candidacy must begin with a telephone call (805-781-5228) to the County Clerk-Recorder to arrange an appointment for completing the Candidate Information Form. Prospective candidates must file California Form 501 (Candidate Intention Statement), Form 700 (Statement of Economic Interests, and either form 410 (Statement of Organization) or Form 470 (Officeholder and Candidate Statement Short Form) with the County Clerk-Recorder.
All local elections are held in compliance with the California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC). The FPPC is an independent, non-partisan, five-member body that has primary responsibility for the impartial and effective administration of the Political Reform Act regulating campaign financing, conflicts, of interest, lobbying, and government ethics. The website of the FPPC can be extremely informative to prospective candidates—especially the “Videos” link—and can be found at: fppc.ca.gov/learn/training-and-outreach/candidates-treasurers-committees.html.
