Margaret Jane Patmore Harkness died peacefully in her home in the early morning hours of October 30, 2021, after over a month- long struggle with Covid-19 and pneumonia.  She was surrounded by family, intentional family, and especially her beloved life partner, Barbara R. Wilson until just before her death.  Jane was 87 years old.

Born January 18, 1934, Jane was the youngest daughter of Earnie Patmore and Annie Tubb May Taylor Patmore.  At her death, she was the last of her generation of her family.  She had no children of her own, but she “mothered” numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews of her own extended family and many members of her intentional family. She was the long-separated widow of Frank Harness and loving life partner of Barbara R. Wilson.  For many years, she was a resident of Cambria, where she was an active and loving force in the women’s recovery movement.

As a young woman, Jane joined the Army, serving for a while in Germany.  After leaving the Army, she was a dental assistant, assisted senior care provider, and most recently head administrator of a senior care facility in Los Osos until her retirement.

A moving Zoom memorial service was held Wednesday morning, November 3.  Approximately 120 people gathered to express what a wonderful impact Jane had had in their lives.  Jane had battled many personal demons herself and, through her own struggle, her understanding, and no-nonsense empathy, she was able to help many others engaged in similar struggles.
