On November 12, 13 and 14, the Cambria Lawn Bowls Club participated in the Pro Bowlers Association for Lawn Bowls tournament in Laguna Beach. The purpose of the tournament was to decide who would be representing the United States at the prestigious 2022 World Bowls tournament in the United Kingdom. The Cambria Club competed in two divisions: singles and pairs.
With over 40 entrants in the singles tournament, Cambria Lawn Bowls member Loren Dion won the championship. Loren, who comes from a long family line of lawn bowlers, will be representing the U.S. this January in the indoor tournament at Hopton-on-the-Sea in England. Loren learned from his grandfather and father as a young child and has recently been seen giving lessons to the next generation.
Cambria Lawn Bowls Club continues to receive national and international exposure. The Club has had many visitors in the past year, and many more are planning to visit, with two events already planned for 2022. The Cambria lawn bowlers will host a “Rinks” tournament with four members to a team on March 26 and 27, as well as a pairs tournament on June 25 and 26. A charity invitational to help raise money for the U.S. team’s travel fund is in the planning stages. Local service clubs will be invited to play a beginner’s mini tournament for a local charity of choice in the year ahead, too.
Come join Cambria Lawn Bowls Club any Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at 950 Main Street for a basics lesson and good time. The first two visits are free.
